Let’s Write About Menopause

The EMOHA in partnership with Writing East Midlands is running its second series of Creative Writing workshops for women in the region on the theme of menopause to support its Heritage Lottery funded Silent Archive project. Come along, gain inspiration to write and overcome the fear of the blank page.

Our second series of workshops will again use oral histories to inspire participants to create new work around middle-life and menopause.

The sessions will be led by a professional writer, Leanne Moden, and will encourage experimentation and playfulness in whatever form you wish. The work will also be collated into an anthology celebrating the project. Leanne is a poet from Nottingham. She’s performed at events across the UK and Europe, including recent sets at WOMAD, Sofar Sounds, and Bestival on the Isle of Wight, as well as shows in Estonia and Spain. She’s performed at the TEDx WOMEN at UCL in 2016, and was a semi-finalist at the BBC Edinburgh Fringe Slam in 2019.

Leanne will be supported by freelance writer and editor Anna Cotton from Nottingham. Anna holds an MA in Creative Writing and is a founding member of two novel writing workshops. Her story Dreadless won Black Static magazine’s international flash fiction competition The Campaign for Real Fear and her short stories are published in the anthologies Blank Tapes: Weird and Dangerous Tales and For Sale: Baby Shoes, Never Worn. Anna has worked on a number of Heritage Lottery projects including Stories of The Croft and Sneinton Market Stories, recording memories and collaboratively editing them for publication.

The workshops take place on Friday 30th October, Friday 6th November and Friday 13th November from 2 till 4 pm. Workshops will take place via Zoom. Writers should attend all three workshops. Due to funding stipulations these free workshops are primarily for women in the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland areas. No experience is necessary.

We’d like to thank the National Lottery Heritage Fund and all lottery players for making these workshops possible.
